Goodnight, Beautiful by: A.I.R. Avery Ranieri
Goodnight, Beautiful
Life is important, so let yourself live it to its fullest. I strongly believe that the only person who can determine the way a day ends is you. Boy or girl, man or woman, I cannot stress the importance of a routine before bed. This may sound random or out of the ordinary, but I will start with my personal experience. Years ago, I went to bed like most do: brush hair, brush teeth, pj’s, sleep. Yet, navigating through high school has brought up new changes and difficulties in my life as it has for many others. Simply put, I have found that growing up is more difficult than younger versions of us may have thought. Each day brings more realism and understanding of the interconnectedness of the world and our place in it. Sometimes it’s hard to find our place and we search so hard that we get lost. Ignorance is bliss.
“What does this have to do with brushing my teeth?” you might be questioning. Well, my answer is: the most vital part of your day is the time you have before you go to sleep. This is the only time through all of it that you have a break- when you are laying down staring at the ceiling and waiting to fall asleep, you want to do so in a way where you can make your good day better or turn your bad day around. This being said, the best way to fall asleep is in a way where you feel confident or accomplished. Start a skincare routine and see differences while also creating consistent, healthy habits. Buy a new set of pajamas or a new pillowcase. Watch a show that lifts your spirits. Brush your teeth for an extra minute or two if that’s what it takes! The moral of this story is self care. Taking a few minutes at the end of the day to focus on yourself and find something that helps you disconnect can change your life for the better. I’m living proof.
So, next time you are falling asleep, think about the positives of your day and enhance them with something that you find joy in. For you, not for them. Love yourself!!! And when you look in the mirror, hair and teeth brushed, face washed, and pj’s on, you can confidently say goodnight, beautiful.
