Beds are for Flowers and People

this field of upcoming gentrification and dying flowers has never felt so desolate.
the moon seems to rise so much sooner,
and darkness always eats the land before we can defrost from the cold night.
maybe it’s because it’s winter,
there’s simply not much blooming to be had,
so i’m stuck gazing at the budded and hidden petals never allowed to spread and soar.
yet, in the back of my mind,
i know there’s a beautiful spring of healthy foliage and simple citizens living their lives coming.
there’s unity there in that spring,
beautiful people embracing each other in beautiful ways,
letting the smiling sun wash over them like a warm blanket,
rising spirits like the simplest of yeast in golden bread,
and smiles gleaming like the gold of liquid butter.
I know there is meaning there,
in that unity and that peace,
and that I have to see it.
It’s been dark for so long I’ve forgotten what sunlight feels like on my skin,
but I know that the sensation exists,
and if it exists, it exists here, with all that I love and cherish.
I will see the sun rise, and that means saying goodbye to the moon.
no matter how familiar it may be, and how scared I will be when it’s gone,
I will see the sunrise.
We will see the sunrise.
